The Future is Female; 2019
This project draws from the legacy of 1980s power suiting—when women entered corporate spaces armored in shoulder pads and tailored silhouettes—recasting that history through a contemporary lens. Informed by cultural research on gender expression, fashion as resistance, and the evolving politics of the female body, The Future is Woman reimagines suiting as both statement and self-expression.
Featuring sheer-paneled trousers and corseted tailoring, the collection challenges binaries of strength and sensuality. It celebrates the woman who commands space without compromising softness. Grounded in research across feminist style archives, Black beauty movements, and post-pandemic wardrobe shifts, this concept proposes a future where fashion no longer asks women to choose between visibility and vulnerability.
